AUGUST - We are more than half-way through the Bowling Season and it has been a very busy July and an equally busy August.  Thankfully the weather improved in July and we had some warm sunny days for the Ladies Wednesday afternoon bowls which were well attended. Unfortunately the Ladies Final on 17th July was a drizzly afternoon but many attended with umbrellas at the ready. The Final was between Jenny Clark and Joan Pammenter. This was an afternoon of excellent bowls. The Competition was won by Jenny Clark and congratulations to her on her success. The afternoon was rounded off with Fizz and Strawberries for all.

All our Heather League matches have been played and the results will be announced at the Heather League Dinner held at Corstorphine Bowling Club on 6thSeptember at 2pm

The Councillors Cup was played in July with mixed teams against Maitland Bowling Club. Maitland won the cup this year - but we will hopefully win it back next year.

On 2nd August we have the Nellie Hastie Triples starting at 10.30. This is a whole day Competition so remember your packed lunches.

7th August is the Ladies Charity Day and the chosen charity this year is Hopscotch. This is a local charity situated in Silverknowes. It organises holidays for children who would not normally have the chance to enjoy a break away. They have a house on the west coast of Scotland and take groups of kids away from Monday to Friday and they have the opportunity to have fun and activity during this time. The theme for the Charity Day is colourful attire. We will have the normal bowls followed by a talk by 2 Ladies from Hopscotch about their work. This will be a great afternoon and hopefully we can raise a good sum to help this Charity.

Our annual mixed Friendly between ourselves and Trinity Bowling Club will be held on 10th August at Blackhall. Afternoon tea will follow. In the evening we have an Elvis Presley Tribute entertainer starting at 7.30pm cost £8. It would be great if you could come along and enjoy the evening and no doubt with some 'hip shaking'
